The City of New Carrollton, in partnership with the PAMC project manager and consultants initiated the New Carrollton Economic Development Strategy project with a tour of the city on July 23, 2020.
Mayor Phelecia Nembhard and Police Chief David G. Rice led consultants and staff on a socially-distanced caravan tour while Karen Ruff, Assistant City Administrative Officer, provided updates on existing business occupancy, use of public lands, and traffic patterns throughout the community.
Municipal leadership is thinking strategically about economic development efforts that focus on retaining existing commercial tenants, filling any vacant commercial spaces, and redeveloping older sites. In order to be successful in these efforts and position the City on a path toward economic growth, an economic development strategy that will drive future investment in the community is the objective of this project. By providing direction and establishing goals and outcomes for the City’s economic initiatives, this economic development strategy will allow all sizes and types of economic opportunity to coalesce to achieve and maintain a vibrant and viable, livable community
